array
Array is a medium-large winterized map featuring mostly level terrain. It is centered around a large relay dish, and the surrounding buildings. There are a few elevated positions on the furthest extremes of the map, but most of the fighting is on level ground, usually taking place directly around, inside, or slightly north of the relay station. The large open areas of this map make sniping prevalent.

cracked
Cracked was first seen being played by community VIPs during the multiplayer reveal for the game. It's also the basis for the singleplayer campaign mission, The Defector. In the middle of the map there are one or two buildings with lots of cracked terrain, hence the name, Cracked. This is where the B flag for Domination is located.
firing range
Firing Range mostly favors close range to medium range combat with Submachine guns, Assault Rifles, and Light Machine Guns being the best to use. If one is defending a building, then shotguns can prove useful. There are two main buildings either team will look to control with a small tower in the middle of the map. The thin-wooden house is hotly contested among either teams while the tower makes a great camping spot. The two teams spawn dangerously close to each other with a well placed grenade able to sneak a kill. Claymores are highly recommended here for a defensive player as they will be constantly rushed by the other team if found. It is not recommended to rush the other team as automatic fire will result in quick death. Snipers are very uncommon here for obvious reasons. However, a Sniper rifle with an ACOG sight can prove deadly ,especially on the L96A1, as it still retains it's One-hit kill from medium to long range. This can be good in defending objectives, such as Bomb site A (Which can be guarded from the tower). Flak Jacket is recommended during domination games because of the open and close quarters nature of this map lends itself to a lot of explosions and chaotic Domination andDemolition games.
grid
Grid is made up of a series of small buildings, hangars, and generators across a snowy landscape, with a power/comms grid at one end. This map is supposed to resemble a communications antenna, similar to the Duga-3 array near Chernobyl (codenamed Russian woodpecker). On the East side of the map, a large area with lots of snowy foliage are ideal spots for snipers, especially the ones with Ghost.
hanoi
Hanoi is a multiplayer map that appears in Call of Duty: Black Ops. It is a medium sized prison setting, with a prison and then streets outside. Taking place at night, the map is quite dark. The location of the map is a North Vietnamese Army prison, based on the real-life Hanoi Hilton.
havana
Havana is a multiplayer map in Call of Duty: Black Ops, located in Havana, Cuba. This map appears to have an urban setting, similar to Cracked or Invasion. There are a lot of chokepoints in this map, especially when playing Domination or Demolition, featuring many buildings in which combat and camping are often seen in. Spawn-trapping is incredibly easy with a Chopper Gunner or Gunship in these game modes, especially in Domination when one team has A, because the entire team will spawn there and become subject to heavy fire as they spawn.

jungle
This map is set in the Vietnam jungle. It is categorized by David Vonderhaar of Treyarch as a "large" map, and consists partly of ruins and huts. The map caters to all types of gameplay, from ranged combat to close quarters and everything in between. It encourages vertical combat, with many slopes and ladders that allow for quick movement between levels. The village section of the map is generally well-trafficked, and many of the close-quarters fights occur there. However, there are a few exposed perches with long lines of sight to support sniping, and the rocks, huts, and trees provide plenty of cover. Some parts of the map have mines at the level boundary similar to Wasteland from Modern Warfare 2. In the middle of the map the player has a great sniping area as the rock has a good view of an open area, while packages can be dropped here or used as bait, and there is only one access point where a claymore, motion sensor or camera spike can be used for protection. The height of the rock also helps for last resorts when the player is about to be killed by another player or are low on ammo they can jump for a suicide.
launch
Launch is set in the Baikonour Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, and features a Russian Soyuz 2 rocket taking off in the background. At some time during the game, although on average, around the halfway point through the round/match the rocket will launch, and set alight and kill anyone located beneath the rockets engines. In Search and Destroy, target A is located under the rocket. In Demolitionthe A bomb-site is located under the rocket. The B flag will also be located under the rocket in Domination.
nuketown
Nuketown is the smallest map in Call of Duty: Black Ops, being slightly smaller than the Call of Duty: World at Warmap "Dome". The map is based on a typical US suburb used to demonstrate the effects of a nuclear weapon on a residential area; mannequins as well as accessible buildings and vehicles are shown across the map. There is a special alley for the RC-XD to travel without the danger of being shot, but if you do not make the ramp, it will blow up, wasting your killstreak. The only way to get past the ramp is by using your boost. This can be found at a hole inside the fence on either of the two house's spawns.
radiation
The map is set in a uranium processing facility. The map features a conveyor belt which leads to a gruesome death. The map also features a set of steel blast doors which can only be opened by a control panel some distance away. There are two panels in the map, and are critical when you are playing Domination, as the B flag is located under the blast doors. Also, the bunker containing B flag has tunnels that lead directly to the A and C flags, so keep an eye on those. In addition to being critical for Domination, the blast doors are also critical when playing Demolition (and Search and Destroy), especially when on defense. The A bomb site is located right below the doors, and player needs to close them to have a shot at winning.There are two switches across from each other. One is on a small walkway in between two giant tanks, the other in a control room in the factory with the explosive tanks. These control the blast doors in the middle of the map. Either switch can open or close the doors. These have the potential to be used to great effect during games with objectives located in the underground tunnel, as it leaves only three ways that can be used to enter, all of which can be easily defended.
summit
Summit is a narrow map with severe drops on all sides. It was the first ever Black Ops multiplayer map to be revealed, being shown in an early multiplayer trailer released byTreyarch which also featured Launch. The two teams that are available here are Black Ops and the Spetsnaz. Summit features plenty of variety when it comes to buildings and platforms. The interior of one large building in the middle is the most open area on the Summit map, with most of it made up of narrow gaps and pathways. It is a map with lots of small spaces for the player to hide in. Spawn trapping is very easy if the other team has the A flag.

villa
Villa is, as its name suggests, a large house setting. It is situated atop a cliff, and the edges of the map have similar qualities to Cliffside. Elements of Courtyard also emerge in the center of the map, as it features a large open space with rock cover. The villa itself overlooks the courtyard, and certain objectives. Because of this, many players find success in picking off enemies who run into the open in this area, as they are easier to target than those who flank the sides and who use cover.
wmd
WMD is an excellent map for larger game battles such asGround War. There are two main sniping posts on this map; the first is located by the A flag and is near the Spetsnaz spawn zone on the gas tanks (look for the sandbags facing the road). The second is located by the C flag and by the Black Ops spawn zone and is accessed by using a ladder, but is a bit harder to find. There is usually at least one person in these sniping spots, and this is one of the ideal maps for players with Ghost. This map can be played on with all classes, though medium-ranged weapons typically fare best. Sniper rifles in the hands of experienced players can be devastating in this map, as besides the more well known sniper spots there are various nooks and crannies that prove advantageous to snipers (e.g., the small structure near the first stated sniper tower with a wall on one side and part of the structure on the other). TheL96A1 and PSG1, because of their high firepower, are the most useful rifles to use.
kino der toten
Kino der Toten (German for "Theater of the Dead") is a Zombies map featured in Call of Duty: Black Ops. The map is automatically unlocked for play at the start of the game, and takes place in an abandoned theater. The map introduces some new components to the Zombies mode, including Crawler Zombies and the Fire Pit trap. The Thundergun is introduced in this map. The cast of Shi No Numa and Der Riese return as the playable characters: Tank Dempsey, Nikolai Belinski, Takeo Masaki, and Edward Richtofen.
